Back in the day, HostGator was one of the best web hosts going.

But today, it is a shadow of its former self

None that I remember.

My experience with Hostgator

I was with Hostgator for around about 10 years. I thought the service was really good until they got bought out by some hedge fund somewhere. And then the service started dramatically going downhill.

I wasn’t the only person who encountered this with Hostgator. Many of my friends who I’d recommended to Hostgator also went through the same thing.

On doing a quick search on Google there a few minutes ago “HostGator problems” I’ve come across many sites where comments have been posted in the last few days reporting problems:

• Sites down
• Gateway errors
• “All my reseller accounts have been down since one of my clients reported it to me at 9:20 am. This is the longest downtime ever.” downdetector
• “Been having issues w/ site availability for 2+ weeks.” downdetector
• IMAP connection issues
• Slow support

So it appears in all this time HostGator has not resolved any of the problems that arose when I left 10 years ago.

It is a crying shame to see one of the best hosts of the day go downhill like that. They must have had millions of satisfied customers back in the day and to see them plastered all over the internet with poor service and poor customer service is a shame.

Conclusion

Would I recommend Hostgator?

Absolutely not.

There is no way I could ever recommend HostGator again, not after the absolute nightmare they put me and all the people I recommended to them back in the day through.
